USAspending.gov!!!

In 2006 Americans for Prosperity worked with a group of other pork-busters to expose a secret hold on legislation sponsored by Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) to create a searchable online database of approximately $1 trillion in federal grants, contracts, earmarks, and loans.

Americans for Prosperity was honored to be in attendance when President Bush signed the bill into law, and on December 13, Sen. Coburn and Office of Management and Budget Director Jim Nussle officially launched the site www.USAspending.gov, which will allow citizens to basically Google their tax dollars.

Federal spending information featured on the site is searchable by contractor, grant recipient, and congressional district. The website will be updated every two weeks with federal spending data and feature an opportunity for users to post comments and feedback in a public online user community. In January 2009, the database will include searchable information about subcontracts and subgrants.

Your activism has helped to make possible this new tool for exposing government waste and for that we thank you. Now we must begin the task of digging through this new information in order to keep government accountable.

Visit www.USAspending.gov today and see how the federal government is spending your hard-earned tax dollars. Happy hunting!
