WOODSTOCK - Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF) will host a town hall meeting in Woodstock on Nov. 17 with Senator Mark Obenshain and Delegate Todd Gilbert to talk about key legislative issues for the 2009 General Assembly. The format will allow a question and answer session among citizens and lawmakers.

AFP-Texas director Peggy Venable told the Committee that Texas needs a better defined state spending limit. Spending limits at the local level will provide the ultimate in local control. Taxpayer-funded lobbying is a betrayal of taxpayers’ trust and denies taxpayers the protections they deserve. If elected officials need more revenue, they simply need to make their case to the taxpayers. Voters deserve an opportunity to determine just how much government we want and are willing to pay.

And while many states are clamoring to be green, and though Texas has programs in place to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, Texas has refused to jump on the global warming regulatory bandwagon. Let's face it: whatever Texas is doing, we are doing it right.

WASHINGTON – When it came to core free-market issues, the average U.S. lawmaker did not even vote with taxpayers half of the time on key votes, according to the grassroots free-market group Americans for Prosperity (AFP), which released its 110th Congress Scorecard today. The Scorecard is based on 18 roll call votes in the House and 17 roll call votes in the Senate that include votes against tax hikes, in favor of fiscal discipline, against undue regulation, and for free trade.
