Good News in Texas
AFP is an issues-driven organization. When an elected official, or in this case, a group of elected officials, do the right thing, we will also take the time to encourage them and thank them for their actions. Unfortunately, most elected officials only hear from constituents when they do something that people don’t like. We often forget to thank them when they do something right. It’s time we thank judges for the role they have played to uphold the rule of law and reverse the toxic influence frivolous lawsuits were having on our court docket and on our economy.

AFP Invited to Testify before Appropriations' Spending Subcommittee
November 12, 2008
AFP-Texas director Peggy Venable told the Committee that Texas needs a better defined state spending limit. Spending limits at the local level will provide the ultimate in local control. Taxpayer-funded lobbying is a betrayal of taxpayers’ trust and denies taxpayers the protections they deserve. If elected officials need more revenue, they simply need to make their case to the taxpayers. Voters deserve an opportunity to determine just how much government we want and are willing to pay.

Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert Pulls Big-Government Shenanigans with Local Citizens and Business Owners

DALLAS – Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert has made no secret of wanting to expand the city’s smoking ordinance to prohibit smoking in bars, pool halls and tobacco shops. But at Wednesday’s city council briefing, he let his desires get in the way of fair and equal treatment of the people he serves: the citizens of Dallas. More than 20 community members – including bar and tobacco shop owners – took time out of their workday to attend the city council meeting to speak out against any expansion of the ordinance.
